PC Bobb The Cardboard Cop is stolen!
We are shocked to report that a cardboard policeman used as a crime prevention aid has been stolen from a supermarket. PC Bobb a real life sized figure stood six feet tall and was placed in a local store to deter shoplifters. He was stolen last Saturday evening in Barnsley. The shops’ spokesman said, "It is bizarre that someone would want to steal our cardboard copper PC Bobb. We'd got used to having him being around and we hope he is returned in one piece.” Has our copper come a cropper? Unfortunately, if a shopper walked by too briskly and created a slight breeze, he'd be on his back in no time. He's also apparently very easy to pick up and take home. Looks like this is true as since then he has appeared on many social networking sites after being photographed attending various parties. I mean this is a serious matter, it ain’t funny so give it arrest! The cut-outs were hoped to boost public confidence, deter criminals and make the police more approachable. Greater Manchester Police claimed the presence of a cardboard policeman at a store in Leigh had cut shoplifting by 75 per cent. However in 2010 Essex Police abandoned a £2000 scheme of 20 cardboard police officers dotted around after they were stolen. I wonder whether there might have ever been a ransom demand? Maybe a cardboard ear was sent in the post? Members of the public claimed they were a waste of funds and placed the police at risk of ridicule. An Essex Police spokesman said: "The trial of the cardboard police officers shows they had very little effect on crime or antisocial behaviour and we will not be continuing with their use." Anyway who wants a cardboard cut-out when you can have the real thing! Maybe he’s been nabbed by ‘Flat Max over at Max The Quilt Cat!

ReplyDeleteHave a great day and thanks for all the cool comments on westiejulep.blogspot.com
woof-woof ... Katie
A cardboard cop? What a trick! Sounds like a joke was played on the joke by the theft.
ReplyDeleteHere we have a dummy cop inside a parked car. A real dummy like a dress up mannequin. Sometimes it's head is slumped and it looks ill.
I find this so funy. I wonder if they will post a randsom te he.. Whatever next and as if they would have detered the one's intent on stealing.. You have to laugh at what they come up with. Hugs GJ x
ReplyDeleteHe's probably gone with Norman..Have a great day Molly xx00xx
ReplyDeleteThe real thing for sure!!
ReplyDeleteOh dear oh dear, I can't believe there are people who are interested in cardboard policeman! Poor PC Bobb, I hope he is still in a piece.
ReplyDeleteIs that a very small PCSO standing behind you in the photo Molly?!
ReplyDeletePoor PC Bobb!

ReplyDeleteLicks,

yeah, Norman the gnome was my first thought too :o) hmmmm..., it's oxymoron that someone has stolen the anti-theft guy :o)btw: he is looking like one of the guys from the harry potter, Crabbe :o)
ReplyDeleteI just came from the Spooky Gallery... It is SOOOOOOOO scary!! I would NEVER recognize all of our furends... without their Names. It is GRRRRRREAT.
ReplyDeleteNow about this MISSING Bobb.. Maybe he just went to LUNCH. I mean REALLY just WHAT kind of SHOPPER would LIFT him Up and take him away??? What would they want him to DO? Scare Squirrels off their PAWpertey or somethingy?
Clearly someone is Disturbed. They should RETURN BOBB!!!
Maybe PC Bobb needed some coffee, so he wouldn't fall asleep just standing there all day...
ReplyDeleteStewey
Ha ha! Good one!
ReplyDeleteI think PC Bob might have just been a place for shoplifters to hide behind. Maybe he just got tired of it! LOL!
ReplyDeleteI want to thank you so much for all your kind comments and suggestions for Freddie. :)
It's a mystery that's for sure. A spooky halloween puzzle.
ReplyDeleteOnce again, real life is stranger than fiction! If Wrigs encountered a cardboard cop, he'd lift his leg on it! He wants to know if humans are really that dumb that they'd be deterred by a two-dimensional cardboard figure. Glad to see you have your local police constables looking out for you Molly! The real thing is much more reliable than a cardboard cutout. :-)
ReplyDeleteSusan T. and Wrigs
Wouldn't work here in NYC! After they covered him with grafitti, he'd be carted off, tortured and burned. Then the thief would discover he wasn't real. MOL!
ReplyDeleteThink I saw him over at Dunkin Donuts a couple hours ago!
ReplyDeleteLovies, Miss Mindy
Stealing PC Bobb seems kind of ironic...
ReplyDeletePlay bows,
Zim
Hey Molly!
ReplyDeleteWow, that PC Bobb idea is BOL funny! Crazy peeps. No one would be scared of that guy...no real cop could be that flat or fall over with a breeze. Now, a real, true, honest-to-goodness, flesh and fur and teeth K9 Chief of Police would do the trick fur real! BWAR HAR HAR. I'll fill in for that flat guy. Shoplifters beware with Sarge in Charge. Bet Bobb is hanging out in some college dorm room!
Grr and Woof,
Sarge, COP
How sad the flat cop was stolen.
ReplyDeleteHey Molly - thanks for the words and perhaps you can meet my Duchess someday. No not Kate, my Duchess.
ReplyDeleteWhy would anyone want to steal PC Bobb? Oh....kitties do like a nice piece of cardboard for scratching...and one that's 6' long, uh, tall,, would make a superb scratching board at a kitty party!
ReplyDeleteThey will need all the cardboard policemen they can get when the government have finished their austerity cuts. Bob is probably sharing a flat with some drug lord, LOL.
ReplyDeleteDip Bridge and Elliot x
Haha PC Bob! Hope you have a wonderful week Molly!
ReplyDeleteMOLLY DEAREST! I am terribly late today! OH YOU, look at you dearest, getting a photo shot with the police...you are a charmer sweet thang!!!!!!! My goodness, there is always a wise guy in the crowd...who would steal the police cut out!!

He's not in your house is he?
ReplyDeleteBenny & Lily
Perhaps PC Bobb got bored and went on holiday instead :-)
ReplyDeleteHaha, this is so funny. I think some paw probably wanted to bring the cop board home to draw on, hehe. The policemen sure seem to adore you. We feel save around you.

ReplyDeleteLove, Raelyn.... And Rose, my BEAUTIFULLY UNIQUE "Mystery Dog"!!
It soundz like may-b sum police (PC Bobb) mite haf bin to approachable. It iz kinda funny tho - sumthing that iz s'pozed to slow down crime - wuz itself a victim of a crime. Just goes to show - crime duzn't pay no matter who or what u r.

From the mom - I never did tell you this back when the Beaglebratz got to do a taste test of free samples and you said something about doing that - are you a member of BlogPaws? If you go to our blog, under out header is a green box for BlogPaws. It isn't just a great pet bloggers conference every year but also a helpful community. When you sign up, one of the questions they will ask on their little questionnaire is something about doing product reviews (or something like that) It isn't a lot but you will be contacted by email by different pet-businesses who are looking for pet bloggers to promote their services and products. The businesses have been pre-screened by BlogPaws to make sure they are legit. I'm wondering, since you are in the UK whether this will be available to you but I would at least give it a try - the BlogPaws Comunityh is great and I just wish I had more time to spend there.

That's hilarious, Molly! I hope whoever has stolen him is treating him well. Just before we left England, they propped a cardboard police car up against a wall on the main road near us - to stop speeding! It kept falling over and after a few weeks it vanished. Maybe PC Bobb would find it useful!
ReplyDeleteUhOh....I thinks we needs to get Blogville's finest cops on this quickly. Where is Sarge?
