Molly The Wally Goes To Japan!

Zoo animal escape drill Japanese Style!

Today we pop over to Japan again to take a look at what an animal escape drill looks like over in Tokyo. You’d expect dart guns and nets wouldn’t you? Well remember this is Japan so there is always a twist in the tail. One poor zookeeper was forced to dress as zebra in this hilarious animal escape drill. 60 workers chased the unfortunate employee around Tama Zoological Park while he tried to runaway while wearing a ridiculous panto style costume. The comical mock-up even saw the zookeeper tackled and zapped with a pretend stun-gun by fellow workers as he tried to make a break for freedom. Visitors were also asked to participate and evacuate the zoo during the drill. They even practiced for the event of a keeper being injured while trying to catch an escaped animal with a giant net. Seriously though the drill was based on the hypothetical scenario of an earthquake destroying walls surrounding the animals’ enclosures. Previous simulations have included lions, gorillas and tigers.

Please take a moment to pop over to see Roo and vote on if you'd be interested in a Blogville Shopping Mall where all our friends who have shops, books and services to offer can be showcased.

  1. Oh you must hope the other Zoo workers don't hate you, if you are sorted to be the zebra! It looks so serious and professional! Poor zebra! You had almost done it, but you had no chance! ;-)

  8. Oh, Molly--how do you find these tidbits? We're kind of loving that zebra costume. I think Wrigs would find it quite entertaining if his humans dressed like that.

  16. So what happens if more than one zoo animal escapes? Of course I guess that is very remote to happen. I am sure they will all wait their turn when the walls come tumbling down.

  20. Hey Molly it is most certainly an excellent plan to be prepared. Many years ago in North Carolina a Hurricane came inland about 100 miles near where a small private zoo was located. They knew far enough in advance to move the animals. The zoo had to be rebuilt but they learned a lot from the storm.
