Bark From The Park, Happy 4th of July.

Molly The Wally says happy 4th July.

Talking Turkey! Molly The Wally says happy 4th July.

It is Independence Day across ‘The Pond’ so we take this opportunity to wish all our American friends a happy holiday. Skipping right past the history bit we take a look at a topic close to our hearts, FOOD!

1Hot Dogs!

One of out every four pork hot dog consumed in the U.S. originates from Iowa, If not Iowa, then likely North Carolina or Minnesota. An estimated 150 million hot dogs will be consumed on July 4th.

There goes my hot dog,
It should be mine,
But it was stolen
At a quarter to nine!
Now I’m so hungry,
I sit here and whine,
It really is so unfair
Oh, I want to dine!
What shall I go and do?
I am in a deep despair!
My hotdog was stolen!
I wonder who did dare!
2 Lone Star Beef!

One-sixth of all beef production comes from Texas. If your beef hot dog, steak, or burger didn’t come from Texas, there’s a good chance it originated in Nebraska or Kansas.

There was a herd of cattle all standing on a hill when an earthquake struck. All of the cows fell down, but the bull remained standing. The farmer noticing this went out and asked the bull, "Why didn't you fall down like the rest of the herd. The bull replied, ‘We bulls wobble, but we don't fall down.’

3. Sunshine Lettuce & Tomato!

75% of all lettuce production comes from California while 71% of all fresh tomatoes come from California or Florida.

A family of three tomatoes were walking downtown one day when the little baby tomato started lagging behind. The big father tomato walks back to the baby tomato, stomps on her, squashing her into a red paste, and says, ‘Ketchup!’

4 Pass the Potato Salad and Chips!

You guessed it.. approximately half of the nation’s spuds are produced in Idaho or Washington.

Beautiful potato,
When I gaze into your eyes,
All I think about
Is making you into french fries.

I want to appreciate you,
I know I really can,
But I appreciate you most
With two eggs in a frying pan.

I love you potato,
And swear my heart will break,
If someone else devours you,
With butter after you bake.

Beautiful potato,
When I gaze into your eyes,
All I think about
Is making you into pies.

5. Some Baked Beans Please!

36% of the nation’s dry, edible beans are produced in North Dakota (the most in any state).

Baked beans,
Butter beans,
Big fat lima beans,
Long thin string beans-
Those are just a few.

Green beans,
Black beans,
Big fat kidney beans,
Red hot chili beans,
Jumping beans too.

Pea beans,
Pinto beans,
Don't forget shelly beans.
Last of all,
Best of all,
I like jelly beans!

6 National Turkey!

The state game bird of Alabama is the turkey. Alabama has one of the largest per acre populations of wild turkeys of any state.

7 Cranberry!

Most of the U.S. cranberry crop is grown in only five states: Massachusetts, Wisconsin, New Jersey, Oregon, and Washington.

What’s the difference between a pirate and a cranberry farmer?
A pirate buries his treasure, but a cranberry farmer treasures his berries!

8 Chicken Licking Good!

The amount of chicken purchased the week before the holiday is 700 million pounds.

Five little chickens by the old barn door,
One saw a beetle, and then there were four.
Four little chickens under a tree,
One saw a cricket, and then there were three.
Three little chickens looked for something new,
One saw a grasshopper, and then there were two.
Two little chickens said, "Oh what fun!"
One saw a ladybug, then there was one.
One little chicken began to run,
For he saw a kittycat, then there were none!

9 BBQ!

More than 74 million Americans will have a BBQ today.

10 Tea!

Skipping past the ‘Boston Tea Party’

Cheers and we hope everyone has a fabulous day!

  1. GruffHello there! Thanks for coming to see me - wowzers, what a brilliant home you have here, I love what you have done with it - ooh my place so needs decorating, I am not sure about my hearts, something Mummy2Legs 'plastered' all over the place during one of her more sentimental moments! Your home here looks really warm, inviting and friendly - and it is blue, my favourite shade of grey that - brilliant! ...all them hotdogs and chickens making my mouth water - and as puppy I used to love tea! Hopefully see you again soon, love Barnie x
