Dog House Blog, Getting Ready For A Howling Halloween!

Molly The Wally Halloween Witch.

Fun facts for Halloween.

1 Orange and black are the colours of Halloween because orange is associated with The Fall and black is associated with death and darkness.

2 Jack o’ Lanterns originated in Ireland where people placed candles in hollowed-out turnips to keep away spirits and ghosts on the holiday of Samhain

3 Pumpkins are orange but also come in white, blue and green.

It was Halloween and three vampires went into a saloon and walked up to the bar.
"What will you have?" the bartender asked.
"I'll have a glass of blood," the first replied.
"I'll have a glass of blood, too, please," said the second.
"I'll have a glass of plasma," said the third.
"OK, let me get this straight," the bartender said. "That'll be two bloods and a blood light?"

4 Halloween was brought to North America by immigrants from Europe who would celebrate the harvest around a bonfire, share ghost stories, sing, dance and tell fortunes.

Bubble, blubber, squirm and gloop,
Boiling broth of bat's tail soup.
Wobble, slobber, liquid goo,
Add the sole of one old shoe.
Spooky shadows dance around,
Of frogs and rats and snarling hounds.
Steam swirls rising to the roof,
Add one small ear and one old tooth.
Gnarly, scratchy, tickle and itch,
Stir round and round to make it rich.
Mushy, sticky, sizzle and stew,
They're making mischief just for you!

5 Tootsie Rolls were the first wrapped penny candy in America.

What is a vampires favourite type of ship?
A blood vessel.
What was a witch's favourite subject when they were in school?
Spelling!
What musical instrument does a skeleton play?
A trombone.
Why don't skeletons like parties?
They have no body to dance with.
Why did the mummy call the doctor?
Because her baby was coffin.

6 The ancient Celts thought that spirits and ghosts roamed the countryside on Halloween night. They began wearing masks and costumes to avoid being recognized as human.

7 Halloween candy sales average about 2 billion dollars annually in the United States.
Chocolate candy bars top the list as the most popular candy for trick-or-treaters with Snickers at number 1.

Molly The Wally & Sheep!

8 Halloween is the 2nd most commercially successful holiday, with Christmas being the first.

Frankenstein bit Dracula.
Medusa scared a mummy.
The hydra laughed with every head
to see a sight so funny.

A giant growled and scared a witch.
The werewolf chased a goblin.
Normally, I wouldn't mind
but now I've got a problem.

I'm shaking in my P.J.'s.
My heart is filled with dread,
cause all these frightened monsters
hid underneath my bed.

9 Bobbing for apples is thought to have originated from the roman harvest festival that honours Pamona, the goddess of fruit trees.

10 Black cats were once believed to be witch's familiars who protected their powers.
