Man gets job as human scarecrow.
Sit down and read a book or perhaps idly strum a ukulele. Could this be the most a-maize-ing job ever? Graduate Jamie Fox is a human scarecrow and is employed to scare partridges from a field of oilseed rape in Norfolk because conventional bird-scarers have not worked. Wearing a bright orange coat he uses an accordion and a cowbell to frighten the birds. Mr Fox, earns about £250 a week scaring the partridges from the 10-acre field. I ring a cowbell and I've even played the accordion, but the ukulele doesn't seem to have any effect on them, (they don’t give a flock!)” he told our reporters from Molly Media "The farmer said to me, 'Bring a deckchair and a good book. I get to sit and read for a lot of the time but whenever I see the partridges, I have to get up and scare them off," he said. "It's not a bad job. I've read some books and listened to a few podcasts. It's nice to be out in the fresh air.” Has he turned into a cereal killer we hear you ask? Farmer William Youngs also drops in to check on him every day. He said he decided to employ a human bird-scarer be-claws other methods failed to stop the birds eating the young rape shoots. "Partridges love rape, it's like fillet steak to them," said Mr Youngs. "They nibble the leaves off, just leaving the stalk, and then it dies. Two or three years ago, we lost 30 acres, worth thousands of pounds. "The only way to get rid of them is to walk down the field and push them off." Not trying to ruffle your feathers but they seem to be a bit of a birden. He said Mr Fox was proving a very effective deterrent. "Jamie's doing a good job. You can really see the difference," Hay guys, brings a whole new meaning to ‘outstanding in is field’! He must be cream of the crop! Whatever tweaks your beak, boy I’d do it for nothing!

That guy is a genius to have created a job for himself but I must admit that being a human scarecrow is not my idea of a good time!

Woos - Phantom, Thunder, Ciara, and Lightning
That's a scary thing. I would not go near it if I were a bird, but I wouldn't want to stand in a field all day though.

ReplyDeletehey Molly,
ReplyDeleteThat is a scary looking scarecrow! Yikes! I really hope the scarecrow is really a human in disguise because I have heard too many stories of scarecrows coming to life to wreck havoc. They freak me out so I can imagine how a bird would feel.
Good for the human for coming up with such a creative way to make money.

Not bad for £250 a week. I think I should abandon my dream of becoming a neuroscientist because I am making less than a scarecrow, hahahaha.
