Kensington Palace
has
undergone a £12million transformation and is now open to the public and
showcases its new souvenir shop. I say old bean, after trotting down the aisles
trying to find some suitably regal souvenir to send to Lucky the lesser spotted
Dalmatian, I found myself frozen in horror. No Gnorman
Anklebitter the celebrated purveyor of bad taste had not been at it again! A silver toast rack boasts a price tag of £1,000, while
other items on offer include a £800 silver egg cup holder, a silver butter
knife for £250, gold plated salt and pepper shakers for £750 and a napkin ring
for £500. Haven’t they heard that we are in a credit crunch, double dip,
inflation busting Eton Mess? Do they think that the only visitors are going to
be employees of Goldman Sachs? As Marie
Antoinette would say let them eat cake and you can put it in a £1000 toast
rack.
