Dog House Blog, Groovy Baby!

Molly The Wally Spaced Out!
Spaced Out Baby!
They were invented in the 60's in London and ever since then they have been casting their cool light over interiors around the world. Yes this month the Lava Lamp is 50 years old and we say Happy Birthday. They were first marketed by a British company as an exotic conversation piece in 1963. British inventor Edward Craven-Walker, was inspired by an odd looking liquid filled egg timer he saw in a pub in southwest Britain. Britain's Love & Peace Generation, saw an affinity between the fluorescent lava flows and its' groovy and easy going spirit of the decade. So to celebrate here is a short video on how to make your own Lava Lamp. Do you remember this blast from the past?

Have a happy psychedelic Friday all.

Don't forget on the 23rd of September Oz and Sugar are hosting their Scoop The Poop Campaign which you can join in with.

  5. Hi Molly!
My Mum had a Lava Lamp when she was growing up and she loved it, but it was a purple and red one and she kept it on the window, then after time it turned in to a clear and light pink one becuse the sun had faded it! Mum says she thinks thas I would love watching a lava lamp, its soothing and gloopy!
I'm not a fan of the homemade version but the real ones rock - I saw a glitter one in the CATalogue and really liked the look of that one!!

Lava lamps. No, I'm afraid that I am a bit too young for remembering this blast from the past!! However. I do love the 60's/70's era. So!! I very well know what a lava lamp is!! Does that count? ;op

  23. Sadly I did not live during the time of lava lamps. But I had one of my own and Lily thinks they are just the coolest things ever. She has one too, but it needs a new bulb I think.
