Dog Blog. Top Ten Pugnacious Pug Facts!

Pugnacious pug!

Top Ten Funny Pugnacious Pug Facts!

1 Pugs are actually one of the oldest breeds of dogs as determined by DNA evidence. In fact there is evidence that Pugs may have been around since 400 BC. Pugs were bred during the Shang Dynasty (1600-1046BC).

A scientific study has shown that a Pugs’ snore can be heard through solid brick walls. Let’s be honest the Pug will not tolerate sleeping without you, nor will it prefer a basket or God forbid the floor. Your bed is a must. Ear plugs are an essential part of Pug ownership. The Dutch word for Pug is ‘mopshond’ which means to grumble, there is no such thing as quiet, when a Pug is around!

2 The Pug arrived in Europe in the late 16th and 17th centuries via the Dutch East Indies Trading Company. The most likely explanation for the breeds name is the dog’s facial resemblance to that of the marmoset monkeys that were popular pets of the early 1700’s and were known as Pugs.
They were believed to be introduced to Holland by the Portuguese. In Europe they were also a favorite amongst royalty.

Five Best Pug Quotes:-

1 I've noticed if you're a Pug owner, you're pug-crazy. Crystal Key
2 I sometimes think that God, in creating the Pug, somewhat underestimated his ability. Oscar Wilde
3 I would rather have an army of Dogs led by a Pug than an army of Pugs led by a Dog. Napoleon
4 The Pug is living proof that God has a sense of humor. Margo Kaufman
5 He would at Windsor have taken possession of the throne if he thought that it looked comfortable enough, and been surprised if asked to move. Anonymous Palace Staff Member talking about Bosco the Royal Pug.

3 Some of the famous names who have owned Pugs through the centuries include, Josephine (Napoleon's wife), William the III, and Mary the II of England, Goya (the artist), Marie Antoinette, and Queen Victoria. Marie Antoinette's Pug was named Mops. Josephine's owned a Pug named Fortune whilst married to Napoleon, not that it did either of them much good.

Pug Talk Translated.

The bark, I want food now,
The snuffle, hmm I said now,
The whine, err right now,
The howl, NOW!
The snort, IS THAT ALL?
The grumble, it is a grumble,
The silent treatment, remember you are no one, until you have been ignored by a Pug.

4 The Pug started gaining attention in the United States after the Civil War and was first officially recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1885. From that time Pugs have continued to grow in popularity. Pugs are currently the 14th most popular dog breed in America according to the American Kennel Association.

How many dogs does it take to change a light bulb?

Border Collie, Just one. And then I'll replace any wiring that's not up to code.
Lab, Oh, me, me!!!! Pleeeeeeze let me change the light bulb! Can I? Can I? Huh? Huh? Huh? Can I?
Jack Russell Terrier, I'll just pop it in while I'm bouncing off the walls and furniture.
German Shepherd, Alright, everyone stop where you are! Who busted the light?  I SAID, "STOP WHERE YOU ARE!!!"
Pointer, I see it, there it is, there it is, right there.
Pugs, We don’t change light bulbs! People change light bulbs. So the question is, how long will it be before I can expect light and dinner?

5 A major quality to the Pug’s temperament is that they are actually highly intelligent dogs. Despite this they can be somewhat of a challenge to train, as they tend to have stubborn personalities. Pugs want what they want and they want it, when they want it. Demanding yes, stubborn yes! Pugs are known for enjoying their meals and treats a little too much and are prone to weight gain. They are eating machines!

Don’t mug a Pug!

Don’t mug a Pug,
for that treat on the rug.
Go on if you dare,
But he won’t share.
Try with all your might,
But your finger he may bite!
Just don’t mug a Pug,
for that treat on the rug.

6. Happy-go-lucky and full of energy, the Pug is a vivacious, fun-loving breed, with loads of personality packed into a small package. Pugs are often called shadows, as they love to glue themselves to their owners’ sides and stay close to the action.

When I got a Pug!

I asked for strength that I might rear her perfectly,
I was given weakness that I might feed her more treats.

I asked for an obedient dog that I might feel proud,
I was given stubbornness that I might feel humble.

I asked for compliance that I might feel masterful,
I was given a clown that I might laugh

I asked for a companion that I might not feel lonely,
I was given a best friend that I would feel loved.

I got nothing I asked for,
But everything that I needed, I got a Pug.

7 The Pug Dog Club in England was formed in 1883 and the standards drawn up for the breed at that time are still in effect today. The American Kennel Club standards closely reflect those from England and the breed is part of the toy group.

Law Of Pug Behaviour!

Inertia, a Pug at rest will tend to remain at rest, unless acted upon by some outside force, such as the opening of dog food, or the treat box.
Motion, a Pug will use the shortest route, unless there is a really good reason to change direction.
Energy conservation, a Pug knows that energy can neither be created nor destroyed and will, therefore, use as little energy as possible.
Space, all comfy cushions in a given room must contain a Pug within the earliest possible opportunity.
Matter, a Pug knows there is matter, anti-matter and it doesn't matter.
Obedience, as yet remains undiscovered.

8 Pugs are known by other names throughout the world. France, Pugs are known as Carlin, Italy Carlino, Germany Mops Hund, Holland Mopshond, Spain Doguillo and China Lo-sze. Pugs are also known as the clowns of the ‘Animal Kingdom.’

Top Ten Signs You Spoil Your Pug.

3. Your husband comes home from work, looks at the food on the stove and asks, 'Is this people food or dog food?'
4. You bought matching His & Hers place mats for your dog and yourself.
5. At dinner parties you always have to double-check the butter for visible lick marks, before putting it on the table.
6. Your dog gets to vote on where to spend the next family vacation.

9 A Pug is a big dog in a small body. The Pug has been referred to as 'Multo in Parvo' meaning ‘a lot of dog in a small space.’ They are fearless. They should kept them away from cows, horses, buffalo, wolves, grizzly bears or anything big and dangerous. Pugs have no respect for size.

If you start the day with cheerful enthusiasm,
ignoring life’s aches and pains.

If you eat the same food day in and day out,
but are always grateful for that extra treat.

If you can take criticism and blame without resentment,,
but are happy when you are praised,

If you can face the world alone with quiet content,
but are happy for a little human company,

If you can do all these things, ...............then you are not a Pug.

10 The bottom line is that one of the most important Pug facts of all is that this is an adorable dog who requires a lot of love and attention. The dog will own you so you might as well get use to it.

The Pug is a dog with squashy up nose,
Big bulging eyes and tippy tip toes.
He snorts like a hog and snores like a whale,
And at the back is a little curly tail.

The Pug is a dog with acts like a clown.
Never a day does he have a frown.
He shadows his owner wherever they go,
And to him you can never say no.

The Pug is a dog that clever and bright
He’s never wrong and always right,
He will love you forever that’s for sure
But your love for him will be even more.

Remember a Pug leaves a special paw print on the heart, hair on your clothes and never a quiet moment and guess who is boss?

  7. I've so far only had one close contact with a pug owned by someone I know. After only having to deal with carrying Whisky, who weighs just 5.2kg, the pug sure felt like it weighed a ton!
I love watching them run and all the snuffling that comes along with it. LOL.

    This is sooooo true!
I'm only half Pug and I am ALL of those things! Mum laughed because the "don't care if you or your spouse are comfortable at night, as long as your Pug has enough room on the bed" is totally true with me, I snuggle up to Mum at night and Dad is left hanging off the edge of the bed!

  12. Well Molly as a pug I found these facts most interesting, my mom on the other hand needed a kleenex a couple of times cos her eyes got all teared up. I hate to admit your comments are very true and now that it has been exposed to the whole wide world may cause some disturbance in the pug world....such as all the love we feel for food, and that we are in general bed hogs and that we are hard to train, my mom is nodding her head repeatedly kinda like a "bobble head" mom but I object! In our bed (moms and dads) again our bed there are five of us most of the time, even tho we have our own beds and usually i sleep between mom and dad with my head on one of their necks. Mom said never in a million years would they have let their minpin Zeus do that so she thinks after he went to the rainbow bridge the part of her brain that controls "disclipine" went with him. The grocery part was rather funny also, cos I have heard Dad say the very same things about spending more on us then their food...oh Molly you forgot the vet bills,,,,my mom would will take us to the vet for a cold faster than she ever would herself to the Dr. Do you think we actually CONTROL OUR HUMANS MINDS with our big eyes.....my mom loved your poems! Stellie
