Get On Your Bike & Take A Hike On Moanday Monday!

I am going to have a good old moan on Moanday Monday. In my park we have a bad case of 'Lycra Louts' ever since our stooooopid council decided to put a bike path right through the middle of the common. Now every 'Lycra Lout' thinks it is a super highway for bikes and they tear down the path at breakneck speeds. Anyway one idiot had his feet tapped onto his peddles and came roaring down said path smack bang into my friend Lula. Now Lula wasn't hurt just stunned as she is a big dog but said twerp being unable to stop fell over and grazed his legs. He then proceeded to lay into Lula's owner. So I barked at him good and proper and everyone dog and human joined in. There was quite a commotion. Peeps asked said fool (when he complained about his grazed legs) would he like her to call his mummy. Everyone fell about laughing. When he threatened to call the po-po peeps said no worries she will call them herself and shop him for speeding. He mutter something nasty and sped off. Peeps told him to come back and say that to her face and called him a gutless twerp. Meanwhile me and my crew chased after him barking madly just to make sure he got the message. Lula is fine and said gutless twerp has not been seen since. Grrrrr we hate 'Lycra Louts'. What are you pet hates in your park?

Have a marvellous Moanday Monday all.

  1. Excellent moan Miss Molly.
When they speed past our cottage, mum often feels like putting out a trip wire. Trouble is :-) can't move out of the way quick enough even with two legs, let alone four paws. Should bike riders have to have insurance and pay road tax ? You bet your paws they should and not be allowed anywhere near walkers.
I'll bring around the soap box :-) xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  2. teehee...and the season has begun, Miz Molly! We too have these paths that we pedestrians have to take at our OWN RISK! With all the cycles and runners out there, we peeps and pups have to watch our backs!

  3. Oh dear Molly my peeps can identify with your distress. Many times when walking on trails enjoying the lovely day they are startled by bikes speeding by w no warning. The peeps always walk the straight and narrow but what if they happened to stumble or take a detour the bikes would plow over them. Every so often a biker will come up behind hollering 'on your left'. Which of course means they are coming on the left but that scares them too. Hugs madi your bfff

  4. Oh we are so with you on this one. Thankfully the path around MY lake is a bike free zone but the road that runs around it isn't and it drives mom crazy that people just hog the road and seem to think that is easier for a car to stop or have to go around them rather then them taking a step off the road.

  5. We think you should have PEED on that Lycra Lout IDIOT.

  6. A very valid moan Molly, most cyclists are considerate but the odd one like the nutter in your park obviously don't think the highway code applies to them, your poor little doggy friend must have been bruised and battered. Hope she is ok now - massively impressed with your peeps, well done for standing up to that twit! next time she sees him, hope she carries a policemans whistle and blows it really load to annoy him when he goes past!

  8. i have a whole soap box MOAN about bikers, i love the lycra louts name, they make us crazy here. they do not follow the LAW that applies which is the same as car LAW... the dead ones and there are many each year, have made the lives of people like us miserable from running over them... rude is their middle name. they zoom through 4 way stops with out stopping and speed on sidewalks without looking..
you did a great job of moanday monday

  9. They drive me nuts on the highway here Molly weaving in front of you when you are doing 110km they should pay registration and have insurance if they use our roads..i have often felt like taking my car for a spin on a bike track..think it would go down well ? hugs Fozziemum xxx

  11. Goooooooooo one! I hate that spandex-frogs too. One of them spat at me as I barked. He fortunately missed me, otherwise he would bike to the pink poney ranch . Mom threw a lump of earth behind him ( bullseye!). They are reckless and useless like pimpels. Have a safe monday Molly and chase that spandex-frogs away!

  12. Oh sweet Molly - be careful out there! I hate it when mom 'walks' me - snorts that's another posting altogether - and people run up to my face. I can't see them when they do that since my eyes are more on the sides of my head. It scares the snort out of me. XOXO - Bacon

  14. Daddy-dog is a cyclist and he says cyclists must obey all traffic laws, including stopping at stop signs, etc. So for some idiot to tape his feet to his pedals and then speed through a park is just INSANE and completely WRONG. I am glad you gave him a good what-for!
    Happy Monday, Molly.

  18. Frankie had a great idea. Oz is correct. The problem is unlike cars, there are few officers patroling bikes and they tend to get away with their bad behaviors. We do have a few bike cops that patrol, but they spend most of their time in the downtown area, not on the trails where bikers and walkers interact.

  19. What fools to put a bike path where people walk their dogs. Hope Lula was alright.

  20. Oh, I'm sure glad Lula wasn't hurt! And good for you, giving that bike rider a piece of your mind! One day, before Mags and I got here, our mom was at a stop sign in the car, waiting for traffic to break. She got HIT by a bike rider! SMACK right into the front fender. She got out and the biker just said, "Oh, I'm OK" and took off! Well, mom's car wasn't OK! She had to call the police, file a report, and take the car to get fixed. Lots and lots of green papers. Rumor has it, she was not a happy camper.

  23. Oh dear, it is tricky to comment on this one, given this household has a foot in both camps, as Gail's other enthusiasm (yes, it's not all about me, apparently) is cycling. She does insist that she is a law abiding and considerate cyclist and wishes all the others were too.

  27. There have been words between bikers and dog walkers down on the lakefront paths and a dog got injured. The problem is the retractable leashes and the people not controlling their dogs. It's illegal to have a leash longer than 6ft on your dog so I do think that's right to do. One morning in our park a biker decided it was the Tour de France and was zooming around and mom kept yelling at her to slow down. Haven't seen her since either! Love Dolly

  28. We have crazy bikers too in our park! Wish they would use their bells before they scare our mom half to death coming up quickly behind!

  29. We despise those mini humans on their wheeled devices, they never pay attention to what is coming in their path. Be careful there on the bike - steep drop off to your right.

    ReplyDelete
  30. We have a cycleway that is to be SHARED by walkers and cyclists. It is clearly marked that cyclists are to ring a bell or make a noise to let you know they are approaching from the back. VERY FEW do, and then look irritated if we haven't moved. So far we haven't had any accidents.

  31. OMG that is awful!!! I'm so glad your friend was not hurt!! That should certainly not be allowed, even with a path he needs to pay attention and be respectful of others.

You know my pet peeve is those folks that don't have their pups under control, they do me in every time.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Our humans have to share the trail (our greenway) with runners, walkers, skateboarders, in-line skaters and every dog in town. They are very considerate bikers with a horn on their bike, and they always announce when passing. What are their pet peeves? Groups of walkers who congregate in a huddle in the middle of the path to chat. Walkers and runners who have their iPods turned up so loud that they do not hear horns or bells or anything else. And finally, humans walking multiple dogs with long leashes that allow the dogs to meander all over the path. Courteousness goes two ways. We all have to share these spaces, and every human and animal that does needs to be cognizant of others needs not just there own. We are so glad that Lula wasn't hurt. She should have nipped that guy on his butt. XO, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

  33. We wish some of those bike paths had speed bumps! The one on our river is dangerous cuz the bikers sneak up and then wham!

Wow, I'm so glad everyone told that jerk a piece of their minds! Imagine, biking outa control like that. Ptthththt. He should learn to control his wheels. Glad your furiend isn't hurt. I would like to have had the po po work this guy over...imagine the fine he would owe for "outacontrol gutless twerp speeding". Now that's a lot of green papers. BWAR HAR HAR

  35. ARG! I hate when people think they do no wrong, but are so quick to blame others! He obviously should not have been going that fast! I am glad to hear the poor dog was alright! I remember when I was a small child, we lived out in the country and I was riding my bike around my yard....well our family dog came bounding out and I hit the poor thing and went flying over the handle bars. My dog was ok thankfully I was small!

  42. We are lucky that we live in a place now that allows for plenty of room for bicyclists and doggies. BUT when we lived in Austin....there were some paces we couldn't go for walkies because of SILLY cyclists like the one you guys encountered!

  43. What a jerk! That was pretty terrible behavior even for a Human and you know how low my expectations are of them. It was really good you chased him and scared him off. I hope he does not come back! XOXOXOX

  44. We can't figure out those jerks who think the path, road, etc belongs only to them. A sensible human would slow down when approaching people and pups but not jerks. We are glad Lula is okay and didn't get hurt. We thinks you handled it purrfectly.
