Slog It Blog It, Mocking The Shocking!

Molly The Wally Goes To Japan.

Popping over to Japan today we are on the snail trail. Yes the latest beauty fad is indeed snail slime facials. So next time it rains and you see all those little molluscs creepy around and munching your carefully grown plants you know what to do. We however think we'd give it a miss as would we some of these other beauty treatments from the past.

Anyone have any idea what this contraption was supposed to do and no it is not a cigar tester?

An early Hannibal Lecter?

Who needs to go jogging?

We think we will keep our ice cubes for our drinks!

Yikes an early Cyberman!

Keep young and beautiful!

An early burka?

Electrifying!

Hellraiser?

Hair raising shocking!

Have a great day and we will stick with beauty being in the eye of the beholder thank you.

  1. SHE used to think those women who wore the rings to stretch their necks were weird....until SHE realised SHE was wearing a rubber cap and having a crochet hook poked through to get hair for streaks!

Those rings look pretty tame after the stuff you found.

  7. Oh the things we do for beauty! Butt no way would our Mommy ever try those snails! She stepped on a slug the other night in her bare feet and we thought she was gonna drop down dead by the way she was screaming and dancing all around.

  16. Mom saw on TV what the Japanese were doing with those snails and it really creeped her out - she says give her a bar of soap and water any day:)

  17. Ugh! The snail facial just seems so gross! I had a huge snail(3 inches long!) crossing my porch the other morning. I knew it had evil intentions with my petunias so I picked it up and flung it over the back fence. It took 3 heavy-duty soapings of my hands to get the slime off! EWWWWW!!!!!

  22. I guess it's true that those humans would always be looking better after their treatment was finished. At least better than they did when the photos of the actual treatment were taken.

  24. I'm gonna show this to mom so she can fix her hair. It is quite the mess. We have lots of snails in our yard. Mom doesn't call them snails though she calls them "disgusting".

  25. So your telling me I can get a supreme expert facial by just going in my backyard and finding some snails next time it rains.....ok XD Its really crazy all these things we do!

  26. I don't think I can do the snail thing... Lily however maybe! She loves those snails. She used to keep them in a container. Sometimes I'd find them on boxes of food in my kitchen because they crawled out. I have a picture of some crawling on her arm too.

  27. I love how in Doctor Who the last living human of future times is just a thin piece of stretched out skin! We are a crazy species. Thanks for the laughs Molly!

  29. I saw the snail thing the other day posted by a friend whose dog loves to eat snails. She said the dog could help "dispose of" the "retired" snails!

So gross. The crazy things ladies do to be "young and beautiful"!

  33. Mom says that she's glad she was born in the 20th century and now is living to enjoy all the 21st century inventions. She does, however, remember a few of those things. Very scary, indeed. Purrs and hugs, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

  35. Howdy Molly, jeez that was freaky. Who thinks up this stuff??? Thank dawg I only have my hair cut cause that's all the beauty treatment I need, although that is mum's opinion. I think long matty hair is quite nice. Those snails were gross. Mum says once before she had kids, she found her niece sucking on a snail, you know, like a boiled lolly. Ewwwwwwww. She has never forgotten it! Thanks again for the laughs. Peeps are crazy ain't they. No worries, and love, Stella and Rory

  37. The price we'll pay for beauty. At least this makes me feel a little better about some of the creams I've purchased. Makes me seem a little less crazy...just a little.

  39. Yikes! Those contraptions and snail trail treatment are gross. I'll let nature take its toll on my appearance before I subject myself to any of those.

  40. Eek, these look more like torture devices than beauty treatments.
But as we look at them we know where the ideas for some of our favorite horror movies came from.
Snails on the face? No way!
