Fog Blog, Beware! Who is sitting beside you Miss Muffet?

Molly The Wally says humans are hardwired to fear spiders

Humans are hardwired to fear spiders.

Humans are hardwired to fear spiders according to recent research. It is their angular legs and unpredictability that scare them so much. They are also very sensitive to seeing things moving out of the corner of their eyes. I so agree. Even though my human has had loads of therapy their phobic behaviour kicks in every time. Panic first and rational thought goes straight out of the window. It's only when they have stopped running and screaming for at least half an hour that normality is resumed.  Last time we had a spider encounter was a few months ago. It scuttled into the sitting room and my human spotted it and jumped onto the sofa. I thought the screaming was just a good game so joined in with plenty of barking. As my human bounced on the sofa I jumped up to join in. So there is the two us making an awful din bobbing up and down on the settee. With all that racket I didn’t hear the door bell but did hear the banging on the window. Eventually on opening the door my human discovered our neighbour was just about to call the police. Pity my human responded they could have arrested the blooming spider. What phobia does your human have? Speaking of bouncing , don't forget Buncing Berties' Narative Bouncing Event in The Blogville Olympics 2012.

  1. I am lucky. I am not that fearsome of insects except for cockroaches because I've been bitten by one once. But I don't go bonkers running all over the place. LOL.

  5. MOL Molly ....were you by chance visiting our house last Saturday night?
My sis and her hubby were visiting. A spider came out of no where landed on the throw pillow by her then onto her lap. You probably heard the commotion in the UK. I had no clue my sis was an Olympic sprinter. I suggested she enter our BO but she gave me the stinky eye. Tell your peep we agree spiders are scary

  6. How we would love to have witnessed that scene! We would have added our woos to your barking. Our Mom isn't afraid of spiders, she just hates how itchy their bites can be.

  9. I have a fear of deep water. That's what trowing a puppy Goose off a bridge into a river will do for ya. (My MOM did not do this to me the mean people before her did. Grrrr).

  10. Oh Molly two legged ones are a bit strange! She doesn't mind spiders but will run a mile and scream and curse if she sees a cockroach - and then jump up and down on it - a lot!! But me, I don't mind spiders at all although They are very careful with me as we have quite nasty and harmful spiders "Down Under" which could make me very ill. It's lucky the police weren't called - imagine trying to explain it all!!!

  12. GruffHello Molly! we came here to recommend our friend Marley from Marley and Lolas Border Terrier Life - we found this post really funny - like Marley always is, poor Lola, think he loves her really!

...and as for Spiders - ooh Mummy2Legs has just shuddered there, rather you than me! (the other day Mummy2Legs was on the toilet and felt something like a hair brush past her bottom area, she flicked her hand in a half asleep state toward it and a huge spider fell onto the bathroom floor and went running off - took her days to get over it!)....

  13. Spiders and snakes don't phase me, but I really don't like to ride in a crowded elevator, or get stuck for a long time on the runway belted into my airplane seat, so I'd say I have a touch of claustrophobia.

  14. Snakes! Mrs. Master HATES SNAKES. Also, tight spaces. Flying, going through water slides that are covered, elevators etc. Maybe not enough to have the police called though.

  16. Mama can deal with spiders, but snakes send her to the hills. She has a younger relative that snags the snakes but is terrified of the spiders.

  18. We have an expert insect catcher in our house. He is called Elliot and his favourite thing is killing anything that moves. Mum has been a lot more relaxed but not when he goes after bees.

  19. That sounds pretty much like what our Mommy does when she spots a cockroach. She gets that icky feeling when she spots one of us kitties staring intently at a spot...

  21. I am not a big fan of spiders; in fact, when I see them I call anyone I can find to whisk the spider away from me!

  22. None of those creepy crawly things belong in the house. They should stay outside where they belong!

  24. I have always wondered what a "tuffet" was! My mom has some weird fears, but she has never been bothered by spiders - possums and rats, definitely, but not spiders.

  25. My mom is super freaked out by mice and rats. She tries to like spiders, snakes and bats because they are good insect eaters and good for the garden...but still...

  28. My lady doesn't like whales. She can handle bugs, but the thought of the blue whale freaks her out. I guess we are lucky we don't live near water whales could be in.
