Dog House Blog, Less Po-Po More Pom-Pom!

Molly The Wally Does A Spot Of Knitting!

Leicester Police Find New Way To Be Tough On Crime!

After yesterdays’ post with regards to those cool toys from Playmobil we think the whole Toy-Town concept has gone to our polices’ heads. Police officers spent hours hanging knitted pom-poms from trees in a bizarre bid to reduce the fear of crime in Leicester. Rather than going after criminals the local constabulary felt that a little tree art was more appropriate. We were surprised our Health & Safety spoilsports allowed them to climb the ladders. Residents around Bede Park in Leicester say they want more street lighting and CCTV cameras after a survey found people living there felt more at risk than anywhere else in the city. What they got were a load of fluffy balls to make them smile and supposedly induce feelings of security. But locals dubbed it the worst crime fighting idea ever. I was really worried about this countrys’ rapid descent into lawlessness but now I've seen these fluffy pom-poms I am secure in the knowledge that we are tough on crime. Maybe they have been trying to catch a cat burglar in the area? Gives a whole new meaning to ‘The Policemans’ Ball’! Leicestershire Police said guerrilla knitting is one of a number of ideas that is being looked at to reduce the fear of crime in the area. Go grab a guerilla and get your knitting needles out folks and remember let’s be safe out there.

  1. Probably they let the bad guy sitting in jail knitt those pom poms, so they have an occupation and don't think of next possible crimes! And the ones that are still outside are scares to end like this and change their way- of-life!
    Nice regards

  2. Here in Oz in Shopping areas where lots of teens would hang out and harass shoppers, they started playing Barry Manilow music....soon got rid of them. Just an idea.

  5. That is pretty weird. I actually think they look fairly ugly up there. I do think that cleaning up a city and making more parks and things to do iwll reduce crime, they are trying to restore the waterfront in uptown the bronx in some tough parts of manhattan and i think that will have a positive effect it will give people things to do and beauitfy the neighborhood rather then treating it as a dumpyard for the rest of the city, but pom poms no

  6. Ha ha ha, such sarcasm :-) :-) Bet they got them on a job lot from ebay anyway. Or maybe with all the paper work and pounding the beat they found time to do a little knitting. Do you think it would be a positive thing if we put them all around the cottage next door... ?
    :-):-)

  9. That's a pretty odd way of preventing crime...and what's going to happen when the leaves fill in on the trees in the near future? Will there be a big rebound crime spree?

  10. Paint the sidewalks pink is just as effective at eliminating crime as hanging pom poms from the trees.

  25. So next time someone is getting mugged they just point to the colorful pom poms and the mystic pom force will convince the mugger to walk away? Do I have that right? Is this an episode of Torchwood? Will the poms hatch into aliens for Captain Jack and the team to vanquish? You sure do things different in the UK

On another note...I love your limerick today Molly...I think Oz was right on the mark in capturing your Molly-ness

  29. That is about one of the silliest things I've ever heard of. The police think they have big enough balls to scare someone.

  35. Now let us get this straight, the cops are trying to make people feel better about all the crime in their neighborhood. So when a thief comes over and pilfers their wallet they will smile? Pretty silly idea!

  36. :D I think they may have been more successful in the fight against crime if they'd simply hung the knitting needles around the place. At least they can be used as some form of self defense

    ReplyDelete
  37. I don't understand, if someone commits a crime under the tree do the balls drop on their head??

    ReplyDelete
  38. Still scratching our heads trying to figure out the connection between pom poms hanging from trees and feeling more secure. Interesting. I'll bet the police paid some consultant psychologist big money for that idea. :-)

  39. Hi Molly, So now you don't need any qualifications to join the police force and fight crime. The only entrance exam needed is an understanding of basic knitting instructions knit one pearl one, how to read a knitting pattern and of course how to make a knitted ball. Perhaps we should all start knitting our own Chief Commissioner! Now I am off to lie down as I feel quite wooly headed!
