Do you remember the days when a computer took up whole rooms, programming in Fortran or the like? How about monitors that took up a whole desk or boot up programs on floppy disc? Arrghhh those were the days of the blinking green cursor, the whirling of the mechanics and the clattering of the printer. Do we miss them? Noooo! Watch this cute video where the Fine Bros show kids just what it was like to use old computers. It is a real blast from the past. Heddy days!
Do you remember those days? Have a tremendous Technosorus Thursday all.
Haha! Funny.
ReplyDeleteLots of Woofs from Earl and I at Earl's World!
Ha, we saw this video and thought it was hilarious! How times change...
ReplyDeleteI remember seeing my FIRST EVER COMPUTER. On a school trip to the engineering department at Trent Polytechnic in 1976. It took up a whole room. And yes, we got to write a programme in basic (to do the sum 1+1=2, I think) and transfer it to cards to feed into the machine. And mine did not work because I had misplaced a comma...
ReplyDeleteCheers, Gail.
very funny we love old things here as you know. I remember my childhood family computer in like 1989 it was huge and slow and we were all in awe of it
ReplyDeleteretro rover
Mostly I remember dial up on AOL. Being in the middle of something online and getting shut down...lots of HBO words coming out of the office. Hee hee.
ReplyDeleteWyatt's Mom
Yes indeed the old gray mare remembers AND she remembers when TV were the size of elephants but the picture was the size of a postage stamp. I think she also knew some dinosaurs.
ReplyDeleteHugs madi your bfff
Crikey ..... Mum used one of those computers but even she forgot how bad they were until seeing that video. She loved it and the kids reactions!! Priceless!
ReplyDeleteBRILLIANT. Now I can see that these savvy kids ALSO feel helpless like the way I do when I try to learn their world! We are on a continuum, aren't we Miz Molly!!!!!! That was fun - the little man in the hat just melted my heart.
ReplyDeleteThose 5 1/4 disks were such a pain in the neck. However, the word floppy disk is a great way to determine age. Those who look at you with a blank stare are definitly post digital age.
ReplyDeleteMade me giggle! I don't care if the Iphone 25 is out by the time I have kids (IF I DECIDE TO!!!), they will start off with a Nokia Brick and they will know the struggle!! Hahaha
ReplyDeleteTake care,
Jessica, Charlie Boy, Roman and Brooke xxxx
BOL! Oh, does Ma remember those days. Thanks for the flashback, Molly.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thursday,
Oz
Too funny. Daddy says he remembers though. It's funny too because daddy is from the dinosaur age - snorts. XOXO - Bacon
ReplyDeleteWow... we've come a long way...
ReplyDeleteHave a great day.
hugs, Bugsy and Knuckles
I don't remember those days, but most of the time my Dad remembers!
ReplyDeleteI remember loading DOS before windows 3.1, I remember DOS only. I remember spending hours trying to figure out why the mouse wouldn't work. Do we miss those days? NO!
ReplyDeleteOh that's too cute! But it all has to start somewhere, doesn't it? I hope those kids have some appreciation for the computers they have now...they're so easy to operate!
ReplyDeleteI not even had a floppy disc, I had a datassette by commodore, lol. I agree with the girl: oh my gosh!
ReplyDeleteHave a super thursday, Molly and don't forget to press run/stop after typing " poke 646.1"
It is funny - Mom was a techno nerd when computers all started and was always so far ahead of everyone but these days she has problems just turning her phone on :)
ReplyDeleteAnd they cost tons of monies...mom says computers are good but with a dark side...heheh
ReplyDeletestella rose
Even Joey dog wasn't around back then! We do have some old techno-dinosaurs moldering in the crawl space. We stay away from them just in case they're dangerous. Our computer science human who works for Pictometry found one of Mom's old cell phones from the early 90s and brought it to work for everybody to laugh at! hahaha!
ReplyDeleteI definitely remember! I was in the work force before people even used PCs. Most people used a dumb terminal that connected into a main frame computer that needed a warehouse sized building to keep it! COBOL and FORTRAN were the languages. I also remember when my company at the time started using the first gen PCs and how everyone griped about the learning curve!
ReplyDeleteTimes (and Thingys) they are a Changin'. as the song said.
ReplyDeleteButt with technology they seem to be changin FASTER than one can keep up with.
they have no idea how easy/advanced they have things now. :) the floppies and flashing green prompt were the start of everything. and i do remember no internet days, too. :)
ReplyDeleteyou look adorable in those glasses and i don't remember this because i did not get a computer until 1997.. i do remember the big box monitors we had in 93...
ReplyDeleteWow that's amazing. We already had forgotten what it was like back then. But funny how all the kids couldn't finde the mouse. The other day I told my grandchildren that I have an old typewriter. They could understand how to use it because where is the mouse and how do you delete things. The technology had taken a giantic step.
ReplyDeleteOur mom is a technogeek and can't even imagine life before her iMac, iPad, iPhone... aye-yie-yie!!!
ReplyDeleteCammie!
Nope, we are way to young to remember that...........
ReplyDeleteDip and Elliot x

Mr Bailey, Hazel & Greta
Amazingly frightening! To think Mom was alive in that prehistoric time! Yikes!
ReplyDeletethat was superb!!!!! That computer reminded me of the old VDT's I used at the newspaper. Do you believe they didn't replace their VDT's until the LATE 1990s????? Unreal! We were using an obsolete system when they were bought for us when we transitioned from typewriters!
ReplyDeleteSHE remembers when those first came out and SHE borrowed one from an Education Resource Library to have in the classroom (first one in the school) The kids loved 'Lemonade Stand', and couldn't wait for their turns on the computer.
ReplyDeleteA few years ago, SHE walked by kids at a school camp who were fascinated by the phone. SHE could hear 'this is mad'. Put my number in next....."Miss, this phone is Mad!" Took awhile before SHE realised it was a dial phone. Entertained the kids for ages.
Thanks for the video.
XXXOOO Bella Roxy & Dui
Yes I do! Technology has came SUCH a long way it's crazy! And it is even more crazy to think where it is going. Soon, there will be no computer screens in front of us. Just a picture sort of floating there, and we will be swiping and typing right in the picture. How cool!
ReplyDeleteღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
Oh yes! Mom always boast that she used the first Mac computer! I get embarrassed for her because it just gives away her age! Love Dolly
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh I remember those big floppy disks!!! Ugh!
ReplyDeleteOMD...Mama is feeling ancient, the first computer she worked on looked like that one!!
ReplyDeleteSmileys!
Dory, Jakey, Arty & Bilbo
OMC The human comes from the pre DOS and pre floppy disc era!!! She is an antique!!!!
ReplyDeleteOur mama remembers computers like that one where you had to type commands to do anything. The first computer she ever had was a Mac SE, one of those little one piece machines with a tiny screen. No internet back then. Yes, she is older than dirt. She is also a total geek.
ReplyDeleteCindi Lou & The Kitty Krew
Wow! That's crazy!! I think I will share this one on FB ;-) Thanks!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, back in the days when dogs didn't blog
ReplyDeleteClassic! My dad used to bring home the cards that Bouncing Bertie mentioned for scrap paper. Our grocery lists had holes in the 70's. :)
ReplyDeleteMom says at that time peeps thought they were amazing but she is very happy not to have to deal with all that stuff anymore:) What will the next generation have?
ReplyDeleteWoos - Phantom, Ciara, and Lightning
Our mom says she remembers using punch cards when she was in college so that shows you how old she is.
ReplyDeleteMom thinks a fountain pen and slide rule could really scare them. XO, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
ReplyDeleteI don't remember because that was in the olden days but mom does and she said we've come a long way.
ReplyDeleteAroo to you,
Sully
Kids are way too spoiled these days with their iPhones and iPads. My kid is so getting one of those 1980 computers that look like a "boxy television".
ReplyDeleteMom can't stop laughing. She says she doesn't only remember those days...she remembers the days when she had to type out her university assignments on a TYPEWRITER!! We asked her what that was and she showed us (she still has hers). "WTD" we said...where's the monitor and mouse...we were just like those kids in the video *BOL*
ReplyDeleteHave a grrrreat weekend Mol.
Wally & Sammy
