Share It Sunday, Dolly The Doxie!

Writing Dolly the Doxie

Dolly and me at the Capitol. - Version 2

A few days ago the Lady I rescued and I got a wonderful surprise when Oz the Terrier invited us to join the Writing Process Blog Tour. We have to answer three questions about our writing process and pass the tour on to three other bloggers. I’ll be one of the first to break the chain as I am only able to pass on to two bloggers.

  Oz and Gina_PR 2

We were very honored to have been asked by Oz and his ma Gina as we have been fans of Oz since we started blogging. “The Great and Powerful Oz” is a Cairn Terrier rescue mix who thinks he’s a big dog trapped in a little dog’s body. We love following his outdoor adventures in southern Florida. He also does great reviews on some fabulous products. You can read ma Gina’s Writing Process Blog Tour here.
But, since we all know that the Lady is the real writer behind our blog, I am going to let her answer the three questions and take it from here.

The 3 Questions

1. What am I working on? Most of you know that I underwent major back surgery just a month ago. Because of that I had to take a break from blogging. I’ve managed to eek out one blog a week but in the meantime I’ve been working on a new web design and rebranding with the help of two other bloggers. We will still be Dolly the Doxie but with a new tag line and much more to offer our followers. I hope to be blogging semi-regularly in the next few weeks. Our new template is now live, please be patient as we continue to tweak it!

2. Why do I write what I do? I have wanted to be a writer since around the age of 12. I learned later in life that I didn’t possess two characteristics needed to be a great writer: recall and imagination. But I still loved to write and continued to pursue it. Not long after adopting Dolly I came to the realization of how much she was changing my life. Something I never mentioned in the blog before is how by walking her in the park every morning, meeting people in my community, turned into networking and looking for a job. One day I thought that I would actually find a job as a result of adopting a dog. That’s when, due to my lack of recall, I began writing down everything that happened in the park each morning so that someday I could write my book, “How I Found a Job by Adopting a Dog.” Well, it didn’t turn out that way. But, a part-time job I had led to me starting my blog so that I could write about my daily adventures with Dolly and how a relationship with a dog can change someone’s life.

3. How does my writing process work? I am pretty sure I have a writing process like no one else, and that’s probably because it can’t really be called a process. I am left-handed and I learned a long time ago that I am ruled by the creative right side of my brain. That being said, I write when it comes to me. I’ll be writing things in my head all the time, no matter what I am doing, but they never get written down. With my blog, once I realize that something is worth writing down I can do it, I just start a post and write down whatever I have. Eventually it can turn into a full story, or I just save it. When it comes to doing a review or sponsored post I can’t really work that way of course. Usually I’ll look over all of the material I have, then let it simmer in my head, and when its ready I write it, it just comes to me. Unfortunately, the other part of my right brain is very OCD causing my reviews to be very rigid and forced. Once I start forcing it I have to leave it alone, hopefully overnight, and go back to it, then I’ll see right away what’s wrong. I look at other bloggers reviews of the same thing and I can see where theirs is much looser and more creative than mine. That is something I want to work on improving in the future.

  2. It's really great to see how others process their writing; I am a teacher and I need to always remember that not every student is going to follow the "rules" or outlines we teach them! I surely don't!!!

I love that "GREAT AND POWERFUL OZ!" I think many of us (I speak for myself) are big dogs trapped in a little dog's body!!!!!!!

    HAPPY SUNDAY, Y'ALL!

  5. Your number 3 is exactly my process. people will read a funny post and say you should do this all the time.. i can't do it all the time. i have to wait until it drops in my head. i can't control what i write, it just either pops or doesn't.... and i write it down right away, someitmes on a pad and sometimes in a draft post...
