Flog It Blog It, Walls Wednesday!

Molly The Wally Goes Retro!

Thanks to a campaign by the magazine 'The Grocer' our beloved 'Funny Feet' ice cream by Walls is returning to a freezer near you.

To celebrate Walls has recently carried out a survey to find out what toys in the 1980's made us happiest and what would be like to see returned.

Top Ten Toys

1/Sindy
2/My Little Pony
3/Sticker Albums
4/Hula Hoops
5/Game Boy
6/Rubiks’ Cubes
7/Space Hoppers
8/Care Bears
9/Polly Pocket
and 10/Top Trumps.

We were more than pleased to see the evil Furbees didn’t make the list along with those Cabbage Patch monstrosities. Recent research by Zurich found that old toys such as Barbies, Action Men and Fisher Price toys stashed away in attics may hold hidden values. Which were your favourite and do you still have them? We are taking our Happy Feet off to the attic to go take a look. Have a wonderful Walls Wednesday all.

  4. This garbage trash dolls were a nightmare for my mom. She was a fan of Mall Madness (and yes she is still playing that game, but now with real credit cards LOL) But we still have some Barbie chicks and some Ken's at the attic. Have a great wednesday and thanks for taking my mom back to her childhood. btw: Oh, the coolest thing of the 80's was ALF! (he's at the attic too, but noseless)

  8. I don't think I remember those feet lol... Good news is most of those toys still exist. There is a new My Little Pony cartoon on TV and since that's been out, the ponies do look a little different than they used to. They also have Polly Pockets, but they are way different than the ones I remember too.

  16. We wish we had Wall's Funny Feet ice cream here in the US! Talk about putting your foot in your mouth... I'm surprised to see hula hoops on a list for toys from the '80s. They were popular waaaaaay before that! (Sadly, I have firsthand experience.)

  19. TW was very upset that her Mom gave away her Shirley Temple doll, which was worth hundreds of dollars some 20 years ago. They must be worth thousands now. Pop still has his baseball card collection. TW is too old for many of those toys but had a Rubix Cube and—wait for it—a Cabbage Patch doll.

  20. Our mom says she remembers most of those fun toys but that she didn't have any of them. Sometimes we wonder if our mom ever had any fun growing up!

  21. Our Mom said that from this list, the only one she had was a Hula Hoop, but it was the first time it was introduced -- back in the 60s or 70s. She quickly added it really belonged to her older sister. Ha roowooroo!
Ooooh, is that Margaret Thatcher on the wall behind you??!? Oh, Molly, I just can't WAIT until I get to tell you something!!!!

  23. i was a grown up in the 80s so didn't collect toys from those years.

  24. Mommy says she didn't really collect specific toys when she was a kid. She just wanted them to be stuffed animal toys. She said her parents bought her one Barbie doll and she scribbled all over Barbie's face. That was the first and last "human" type toy her parents bought her.

  26. Hey Molly!
Wow, I gotta admit that my toys never seem to last long enough to be valuable or classics! BOL I have lots of torn up unstuffies, but alas they only matter to me. BOL My Mom was partial to her Rubik's Cube and hated those cabbage doll horrors.

  28. Now there's a foot I'd like to put in my mouth! Hmmm. Classic toys... I liked my Lincoln Logs and my Barbies. We agree about those horrid Cabbage Patch kids. Never had one of those.

(Love that you have an Adam Ant poster on your wall, Molly! He was my teen idol!) Awww, the 80s.

  31. Ah, the 80's! My childhood has returned! I agree, Cabbage Patch Dolls were a little freaky looking (even though I had one or two of them...they always kind of creeped me out!), and Furbies were just plain weird and annoying. I never had a Furby (thank God my parents had an ounce of sense), but a friend of mine did, and I just remember her trying to cut the dumb thing off all the time...and it was like it was Lazarus being raised from the dead--that thing would start blinking and talking a few minutes after she tried to cut it off.

I loved My Little Ponies, Barbies, Care Bears, and Polly Pocket! (Have you seen what Polly Pocket looks like today?? Definitely not pocket sized anymore, but that's probably because everyone's younger siblings choked on the teeny tiny toy back in the day). Unfortunately, my parents got rid of pretty much all of me and my sister's old toys, so we don't have any hidden treasures in the attic...booo! In fact, I just ran across one toy that I used to have that's selling for like $250 now. :(

P.S.--Your comment on our blog about "finding your roots" cracked us up! :)
