Flog It Blog It, Top Ten European Union Daftest Food Rules!

Molly The Wally the chef. A spot of cooking.

My top ten daftest EU food rules.

The euro is in free-fall, the EU is falling apart and yet here the highly-paid, highly-pensioned officials worry about such weighty issues as food. The EU reaches a level of mouth-dropping, staggering stupidity that no nation in human history has ever matched! If you don’t believe me try my top ten EU food directives. We know those of you not in the EU are going to be so jealous!

Brussels bureaucrats were ridiculed after banning drink manufacturers from claiming that water can prevent dehydration.

Rules banning abnormally bent bananas which must be at least 14cms in length were scrapped after causing international ridicule.

The Eu has ruled that prunes do not have a laxative effect and producers cannot say that they do.

EU tried to ban the selling of eggs by the dozen as they are told us all food must be weighed and sold by the kilo.

It ruled that top-of-the-range cucumbers must bend by only 10mm per 10cm in a directive designed to help packaging and transport.

In another directive it ruled that carrots should be termed as fruits, as the Portuguese made jam out of them.

A threatened European ban on smoky-bacon crisps was averted at the last minute when MEPs forced through amendments after a backlash from the British public.

Popular British snack ‘Bombay Mix’ to be changed to ‘Mumbai Mix’.

It looks like jam and tastes like jam but EU food rules say it cannot be labelled as “jam” if it doesn’t have enough sugar and then it is termed a ‘fruit spread’.

An Eu rule, asking that people do not eat their horses resulted in The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs spending £45,000 on gypsies who might not have know about the change. Under the move, owners had to sign a legal document promising not to dine on their animals. Refusal meant jail or an unlimited fine.

EU rules for working in Brussels

Never open your office before 10 am
Blame everything on the US
Be happy with your large pay and pension.
Take two raincoats to work, leave one in the office and take the other to your three hour lunch break.
Leave office at 3pm.
Claim every bank holiday for every country in the EU.
Employ your family, friends and pets.
Make sure any directive is unintelligible, plenty of wiggle room.
Never take credit for any directive.
Never sign anything.

Off to Brussels to get a job and jump on the gravy train!

  3. I have to say the EU has gotten just a little crazy. Sometimes humans make the most stupid rules and then have to make more rules to help the other rules... then it just gets messier. I think we dogs (and kittehs) should be ruling... 2 bones in every pot.... green grass for everyone!!

We'd love to be one of your buddies. Let us know if you need anythings special from us!
