Roadkill in Chinese restaurant, oh deer.

Oh Deer, stomachs turned at a Chinese restaurant in Kentucky last week when during a buffet lunch, customers noticed a rubbish bin full of roadkill being wheeled into the kitchen. Locals and regulars of the Red Flower Restaurant in Williamsburg couldn't believe their eyes as they watched employees pushing a clumsily concealed deer carcass through the dining room as it dripped blood all over the floor. In a useless attempt to avoid unwanted attention, the men had tried to hide the dead animal, but to all watching, the shocking truth was plain to see. Stag-gering, there was like a tail, and a foot and leg sticking out of the garbage can. Bad ‘game’-plan maybe with ‘hind’-sight they should have used the back door. After one quick-thinking diner called the health authorities, an inspector arrived to investigate and was amazed to hear the restaurant owner telling him that he didn't know he wasn't allowed to pick up roadkill. Red Flower regular, Tonya Thacker admitted she vomited straight away after witnessing the gut-wrenching scene. 'I don't think I'll ever eat Chinese food again,' she said. Marveling at the irony with disgust Ms Hopkins said 'We were actually joking about the, you know, the whole Chinese restaurant. You know some rumors that you hear.' There was actually a blood trail that they were mopping up behind the garbage can. Though the restaurant does not face any fines, many customers will no doubt stay clear of the Chinese eatery in the future. Typical business owner looking for ways to save a buck!

  8. That is pretty gross, but believe it or not, there are actually laws on the books in some states as to whether or not one may take home their deer if they hit it with their car. In most cases it is legal to take your roadkill home for butchering, but at least you know it is fresh if you hit it yourself.

  21. Hey Molly!
Wow, I'd normally eat just about any meat, but BLECH! Peeps are not amused about this sort of thing. I'm sure they won't be "hoof"in' it on over there anytime soon. Amazing there are no fines for that... jaywalk and they'll get you, but feed people roadkill and it's just a warning! BOL
    BTW: Love the spookifications!

  24. Oh my gosh, Molly! That picture of you has Wrigs quaking in his booties!

He thinks it's very progressive of that restaurant to "recycle" road kill. Not only would he be happy to eat it, he might even roll in it!

Thanks for adding Wrigs to the Spooky Gallery! I must say, I'm not sure I'll ever be comfortable turning my back on him again! ;-)

  33. So weird?!? Why in the world would they pick up road kill to be served? What if the deer had some disease?

We love Chinese restaurants... but that's just plain ignorance.
